And We’re Off..

To Hanoi, that is. I thought we were going to leave for Hanoi yesterday, but things change, as you know. Maybe we misunderstood or maybe things just changed the way they often do in other countries. Whatever the reason, we have our tickets to Hanoi for this afternoon.

Binh’s birthday was yesterday! All 15 pounds and 26 inches of him turned one year old. It’s so strange seeing him crawl and pull up and cruise along the furniture. He looks way too small to be doing those things! Ashley has nicknamed him “bulldog” just to be funny. He was afraid of the teddy bear we brought for him for his birthday. We made one at Build-a-Bear the way we did for Ava when she turned a year old.

We went to his medical appointment yesterday, which wasn’t much of anything. They told us he was under nourished, which we already knew. He has learned just since he’s been with us how to eat “solids” off a spoon. They said he had rice cereal at the orphanage, but it must have been watered down out of a bottle because he choked on it the first night we gave it to him. Now he gets excited when he sees the spoon. He’s eaten cereal and fruits like pears and bananas (baby food). We also give him stuff from our plate like rice and bread. He also seems much more hydrated. He cries tears and has way more wet diapers than the first couple of days.

Ava has been showing a couple of signs of jealousy, which is to be expected. She wants to sit on our lap or be held whenever we pick up Binh. We try to give her lots of attention, though, and tell her how terrific she is. I slept with her last night and Ash had Binh duty, so I got to cuddle with her. I think we both enjoyed it.

I think it may be possible to be on a plane back to the states by early next week. I will be glad to get home where we can have stuff like high chairs and our regular day to day routine. I’m also looking forward to getting Binh to a doctor there.

Thanks to everyone for keeping up with us and praying for us, too. Please continue both! I’ll try to keep updating as much at I can.

Glad all is well and that he is eating well. I’ll pray for all of you and for Ava to be totally secure in your love for her every minute of every day. 🙂 She’ll be fine, I’m positive. 🙂 I hope you are enjoying Hanoi. Cha cha cha…
